I was a bit nervous because I&amp;#8217;ve never done a multi-sport race before and I&amp;#8217;m pretty sure most every other person competing was an intense triathlete, but I like putting myself outside my comfort zone, so I went for it.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;It was a pretty cold day but once we got started I was okay in my long-sleeve shirt and long running tights. My toes froze on the bike ride, though.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Anyway, If the run had been a full 5k (I think it was 4.7) I would&amp;#8217;ve gotten a PR because I gave &amp;#8216;er and clocked in pace-wise at 8:29, which made me happy. I&amp;#8217;m getting faster! The first run was good and got me all nice and warm for the bike ride.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The ride was 18k, and on the way out, it was pretty easy, at least compared to the way back. I was flying along at a good speed, then we turned around to come back and BAM! The wind was howling! Absolutely brutal wind that no rider appreciated, especially with the hills. And this was only my fifth bike ride, so I&amp;#8217;m not at all used to riding in such wind or riding on hills. Only room to improve, I guess! I crawled along on the way back, ruining what probably would&amp;#8217;ve been a nice pace, but I still had a healthy 13.8mph, so it wasn&amp;#8217;t so bad, especially as I&amp;#8217;m just a beginner.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Both my transition times were quite slow, so I need to work on that, but this was my first time so that&amp;#8217;s okay.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The last run was understandably a little slower, but it was still around 8:50 pace-wise, so not too bad! And I felt good, other than some lateral knee discomfort. Going to have to keep on the ice for the next day or so.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Anyway, overall it was a great experience, though it would&amp;#8217;ve been even better  if the weather were nicer. It is June, after all. Except I live in the worst place for weather ever, so I should probably just be happy it wasn&amp;#8217;t raining&amp;#8230;&lt;/p&gt;

That basically...</title><description>&lt;p&gt;I just realized that I can&amp;#8217;t remember the last time I cried because I was sad. That basically means I haven&amp;#8217;t been super sad in a while, because I cry at everything. And that is the most awesome, especially because I can remember periods of time where I was always crying.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;And that doesn&amp;#8217;t mean my life is kind of flat-lining right now; I&amp;#8217;m just only having ups. Sure, there are one or two aspects of my life that I&amp;#8217;m not content with, but for the most part, I&amp;#8217;m happy and excited and love experiencing this life.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;And I now I feel teary. Don&amp;#8217;t mistake teary with crying - I get teary at everything, EVERYTHING. It&amp;#8217;s ridiculous.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Also, sometimes I worry that I have some deep dark sadness within me and I&amp;#8217;m just suppressing it and lying to myself about my happiness, but I don&amp;#8217;t think that&amp;#8217;s the case. But I do worry about it sometimes.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This is a weird post, I know. But does anyone else ever worry about that? Of course, I&amp;#8217;m not stupid - I know most of it&amp;#8217;s water weight - but I just feel so much better. I don&amp;#8217;t feel bloated, and I just feel smaller. I even feel like I look a tiny bit smaller, which is nice. Just less flabby and bloated.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Anyway. I&amp;#8217;m going to keep at it and see where it gets me. I&amp;#8217;m not going to be able to count calories when I&amp;#8217;m backpacking this summer, but I&amp;#8217;m going to be walking everywhere, plus getting in my strength training and runs, and I&amp;#8217;m going to eat well. No going to McDonald&amp;#8217;s or restaurants to get big meals, but rather picnics and healthy snacks.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I can do this! I want to lose 12 more pounds before the end of the August.
